It’s easy to forget small things.
Where you put your keys.
Your phone.
The name of someone you just met.
On a deeper level, it’s just as easy to forget something far more important.
Who you are.
And who you’re becoming.
In the noise of everyday life — sleeping, eating, working, learning, managing relationships, consuming entertainment, and doing it all again — days can blur together. We get busy remembering everything we need to do or worrying about things that may never happen.
And in the process, we forget ourselves.
Much of the world has this wrong.
You aren’t your emotions, even though they’re part of your experience.
You aren’t your body, even though it carries you through life.
You aren’t your work, even though it can easily consume you.
You aren’t your addictions or distractions, even when they’re used to numb pain.
There is something deeper and more enduring underneath all of that.
You are of immeasurable worth.
You are a child of God — a spiritual being having a physical experience. I believe you existed before this life and that life continues afterward.
Even if you doubt that.
Even if you’ve forgotten.
Even if you’ve convinced yourself that the only thing real is what can be measured or proven.
Your worth doesn’t change. Neither does you real identity.
God didn’t send you here just to get by.
You were sent to learn.
To learn what light is.
What love is.
What hope and faith look like in real life.
Life has a way of teaching, whether we’re paying attention or not. Experiences keep knocking until we open the door and learn what they’re here to teach.
That light overcomes darkness.
That faith can be stronger than doubt.
That struggle forges strength.
That control is mostly an illusion.
That forgiveness heals.
That love matters.
That family matters.
That what you build and create matters.
That money, while important, has limited eternal value beyond the lessons it teaches.
That giving precedes receiving.
That happiness is often found in service.
That trust is fragile and earned over time.
That submission to God’s will brings peace.
And many more.
Amid the busyness of life and the constant noise of the day, my hope is that we remember what really matters. That we can cut through the chaos and see life more clearly.
Life school is in session.
If you’re willing to learn, a teacher will appear.
And if you’re not, the lessons will keep knocking — patiently, persistently — until you’re ready to open the door.
